VIPcare physicians typically see 12-15 patients a day.
We take care of our team so they can focus directly on providing comprehensive care to our Medicare senior patient population.

 

Position Objective:

The Physician Assistant is a clinical role that will provide exceptional medical care to patients by conducting physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing patient treatment plans under the supervision of a physician.  This role is a safety-sensitive position as it involves direct patient care and administering medication. The incumbent will report to the Regional Manager (or similar role) and will work closely with other healthcare professionals to provide quality care to patients collaborating with other clinical teams to support team function.

Responsibilities:

  • Practice medicine under the supervision of a physician using sound medical judgment and adhering to all ethical considerations of the practice of medicine; knowing limitations and seeking consult when advisable; keeping abreast of current technologies and industry standards
  • Under the supervision of a physician, provide care for patients with acute and chronic illness encountered in the older adult patient
  • Under the supervision of a physician, accountable for patient care and outcomes and will appropriately seek consultation from specialists when needed, though will stay involved in, and be responsible for, the detailed care of the patient
  • Engage with hospitalists whenever a patient is in the hospital
  • Meet all clinical obligations of the medical practice: Accrediting Agency compliance, CLIA compliance, drug prescription compliance, HIPAA, State and Federal regulations, Safety Regulations, etc
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, manage, educate, promote health, and provide care coordination and documentation for patients with acute and complex chronic health needs using evidence-based medicine and practice guidelines
  • Follow all internal policies and procedures
  • Accountable for the completion of all operational tasks according to departmental guidelines to ensure appropriate clinical processing/documentation
  • Maintain complete and detailed records, electronically in the EMR, of patients’ health care plans and prognosis, completed within 48 hours of each patient’s visit 
  • Provide patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent/manage disease or disability
  • Analyze and interpret patients’ histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnosis
  • Interpret data and diagnostic results for an appropriate course of action including but not limited to blood gases, radiology, EKG, etc. in collaboration with supervising physician
  • Exhibit behavior that emphasizes compassion, quality, loyalty, and conscientiousness
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, their families, and team members
  • Document continuing education per licensure and certification requirements
  • Ensure that patients are seen every other visit by the Physician
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements
  • Enact proper chain of command for patient complaints
  • Additional duties as assigned

Position Requirements/ Skills:

  • Completion of a four-year Physician Assistant baccalaureate program and a year of clinical training, or;
  • Completion of a two-year accredited Physician Assistant program (which requires two years of undergraduate study) plus two years of clinical training following completion of the PA program
  • State licensure or accreditation as a Physician Assistant
  • At least 1 year of experience in outpatient primary care experience
  • Prior experience working in an electronic medical records system
  • Provide 5 Star service in accordance with the Better Health Group's mission
  • Skilled in traditional nursing disciplines of patient assessment and management
  • ACLS/BLS certification required as mandated by state
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care
  • Demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a various group of people
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, teaching ability, and good telephone skills 
  • Working knowledge with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for real-time collaboration

Physical Requirements:

  • Full range of body motion, including handling and transferring patients, manual and finger dexterity; including eye-hand coordination
  • Requires standing, walking, pushing, bending, kneeling, and reaching at arm’s length and overhead in a clinic for prolonged periods of time 
  • Must be able to lift and move patients and medical equipment as needed
  • Requires ability to lift/carry up to 15 lbs 
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have own means of transportation
